Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about prep, protection, lead paint, warranties and how we actually work in your home.
What homeowners ask us most
If your question is not here, call 516-447-2732 — we are open 24 hours.
Do you move furniture?
Yes, we move everything to the center of the room and casters are used to protect the floor.
How do you protect floors?
Heavy canvas drop cloths are used.
Do you install new molding?
Yes, all types of molding are installed, and samples are provided to choose from.
Can you do sheetrock patch and water damage repair?
Yes. We cut out sheetrock to remove all wet insulation. We spray for mold, install new insulation and close up the opening with new sheetrock. Taped and spackled, primed and painted, it will be invisible.
Do you paint near me?
We paint in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens and Manhattan.
Do you paint molding?
Yes, usually using semi-gloss paint.
Do you paint cabinets?
Yes, this is one of our specialties. When we come for the estimate, we bring an actual cabinet door to show you how it will look along with many photos.
Do you sand?
Yes, with a great deal of protection (plastic drop cloths).
Do you change out rotted wood and replace shingles?
Yes, we change out rotted wood and for smaller repairs we can patch and sand it smoothly.
How do you handle lead paint?
We are a certified lead paint renovator. We have taken all the certification courses. The biggest part of the protection is against paint chips and lead.
Do you power wash?
Yes, most houses that we paint will be power washed first. We also wash vinyl siding, decks, patios, pavers and driveways.
Do you have a warranty?
Yes, all paint jobs are covered by a 1-year warranty against all paint failure.
Do you stain or paint decks?
Yes, natural or transparent stain is common on decks, but some people prefer a solid color, which is no issue.
Do you do background checks on employees?
Yes, all employees are vigorously vetted and have multiple references. Most employees have worked with us for 15 years.
Do you remove wallpaper?
Yes. Removal of wallpaper and backing is only the first step. The next step before painting is plastering to make the walls smooth before priming and painting.
Do you install wallpaper?
Yes, we install all types of wall covering.

The part most painters skip is the part we are known for
Prep, protection and paperwork. It is not glamorous, and it is the whole difference between a paint job that lasts and one that does not.
Your home gets protected
We move everything to the center of the room, use casters so nothing scars the floor, and lay heavy canvas drop cloths — never plastic sheeting underfoot.
Lead-safe certified
We are a certified lead paint renovator and have completed the full certification coursework — which matters on almost every pre-1978 Long Island home.
One-year written warranty
Every paint job is covered by a one-year warranty against all paint failure. It is written down, and you get a copy.
Crews you can vet
Every employee is vigorously screened with multiple references. Most of our people have been with Walker Painting for 15 years.
